Why it matters

【Key points】

At 03:12 Beijing time on Oct 10, the official ChatGPT account posted a three-part update to dots, the always-on agents launched in late September.

First, you can now create a dot from the ChatGPT app on iOS and Android. At launch, initial setup required the desktop app or desktop web.

Second, a dot can delegate work to Codex: start new Codex tasks or follow up on existing threads, drawing on your ChatGPT conversations, Codex threads and automations. OpenAI says it is also better at deciding when to continue a thread or start fresh.

Third, a dot can review and edit Scheduled Tasks in ChatGPT Work. The thread also lists small fixes: faster browsing, fewer notifications, cleaner code blocks and attachments, easier Outlook setup and more reliable Enterprise web access.

At publication, the ChatGPT release notes had not yet listed this update, and the posts do not specify plans or regions. At launch OpenAI said tasks a dot starts or manages in Codex or Work count toward usage. About 10 minutes after posting, the lead post had ~17K views and 65 replies.

【Our read】

1. The real change is that a dot now orchestrates other agents. Beyond working on its own cloud computer, it can open Codex tasks and edit Work schedules, becoming a dispatcher across OpenAI's own products.

2. More dispatch power makes cost and accountability harder to see. One request to a dot may spin up several Codex threads that count toward usage, initiated by the dot rather than the user. OpenAI should show clearly which work a dot started and let users cap it.

3. Mobile setup lowers the barrier. Once the free first month for dots usage promised at launch ends, watch for formal pricing and whether Codex delegation reaches Plus.
